It’s that time of the year again! Back to school is right around the corner, and that means it’s time for seniors to start getting their senior portraits taken. Senior photos are meant to commemorate one of the first big milestones young people hit in their journey of life. It’s important to capture this time in their lives in the best way possible, and the following are 7 tips for the best senior photos.

1. Bring one timeless outfit to your shoot.

Your senior photos are meant to show off your personal style, yes. But when you’re looking back at them 10 or 20 years from now, there is a pretty high possibility that you’re going to seriously wonder what you were thinking. Make sure to bring a little black dress, or a white tee and dark jeans so that 30 year old you can say “oh, there is something that I can still relate with”.

2. Stick to solid colors (and stay away from bright, bold patterns).

Again, yes, your senior photos should show off your personal style, but the fact of the matter is that solid colors photograph better than busy patterns. Choose one or two colors that you feel represent your personal style the best.

3. Use accessories to personalize your outfit.

This goes hand in hand with tips 1 and 2. Pairing classic colors with funky accessories is the easiest and chicest way to make your outfit more you without compromising the quality of the photos.

4. Wear clothes you are comfortable in.

If you aren’t comfortable in the clothes you bring to your shoot, it will show in the photos. Stick to clothes that you know fit you well and you are comfortable moving around in (your photographer is going to pose you in ways that you might never imagine, so make sure you can bend and twist)!

5. Bring a lot of outfit possibilities.

Bringing multiple outfits is the best way to ensure you look the best in your photos. You can go through the options with your photographer and together can choose what is going to work.

6. Bring personal props.

There are more ways than just your outfit to show off your personality in your senior photos. Are you on a sports team? Bring your letter jacket or equipment. Love to read? Bring your favorite books. Your pictures should show who you are and what you love!

7. Bring someone with you.

This is one of the most essential tips for a successful senior photo shoot. Being in front of the camera can be uncomfortable if you aren’t used to it, and the best way to get over that is to have someone with you who can make you laugh!
